Symposium ’19

Background and Objective

German Sparkassenstiftung has been working on implementing the “Dual-Education” approach within the Microfinance sector in Ghana since 2016. Sparkassenstiftung’s goal is not only to support the organizational development of Microfinance Sector and Credit Unions, but to strengthen financial systems enabling them to create a conducive financial access for all.
To progress with this objective, German Sparkassenstiftung organized a two-day symposium which brought together over sixty (60) stakeholders in the industry. The stakeholders ranged from the government sector, education sector, microfinance and banking apexes and COTVET. The theme for the event was Qualified Experts as the Excellence for the Ghanaian Financial Industry: Dualized vocational education as proven practice from Germany.

The event aimed to support experience share between the key stakeholders of the project at political and implementation level and to discuss the strategic directions for further project planning and implementation. Discussions were centred around finding solutions on the following three key areas:

  1. ACTION PLAN FOR DUALIZED VET IN THE BANKING & MCROFINANCE SECTOR.
  • Roadmap to dualized VET for banking officers and microfinance practitioners in Ghana - steps to prepare the ground for the introduction of dualized VET in the financial sector.

  2. ACTION PLAN FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONTENT MANAGEMENT PLATFORM.

  • Roadmap to roll-out – using the Content Management Platform to further scale up the SBFIC training programs and to subsequently transform it into an e-learning platform for the microfinance sector.

  3. ACTION PLAN FOR ESTABLISHING A COMMON FACILITY CENTER FOR IN-SERVICE TRAINING.

  • Roadmap to sector-based training capacities - the operationalization of joint training activities under the umbrella of GHAMFIN through creating a Common Facility Center (CFC) for staff training.
