Gambia Delegation Study Visit to Ghana

A delegation from our project partner in The Gambia visited ROAA Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. (ROAACCU), ARCCU Co-operative Credit Union Limited (ARCCU), and Bopp Co-operative Credit Union in Takoradi, Ghana, to gain practical insights into the MSME cash flow-based lending concept.

The delegation, comprising representatives from the National Association of Cooperative Credit Unions of The Gambia and the Gambia Teachers’ Union Co-operative Credit Union, studied the experiences, lessons learned, and challenges associated with this approach in preparation for its potential implementation in The Gambia.

The MSME cash flow-based lending assesses a borrower’s ability to repay without requiring collateral. This approach promotes more inclusive and flexible access to credit for members. Initially piloted with five credit unions, the initiative has now expanded to 12, gradually increasing financial access across Ghana.

This exchange visit was organised in collaboration with the Ghana Co-operative Credit Unions Association through the Western Bloc. It forms part of the regional project in West Africa funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by German Sparkassenstiftung.
