Faces of Football Workshop

The Faces of Football Workshop, an initiative by Petra Landers, took place in collaboration with selected NGOs, the German International School, German Sparkassenstiftung Western Africa, Universal Wonderful Street Academy NGO, and Youngsters School Nima. The event served as a soft launch for the Faces of Football e.V. social school, aiming to raise awareness about the impactful work being done in Ghana. This workshop brought together young girls from diverse backgrounds to unite through sports, showing them that football transcends race, gender, and financial background, and can break barriers while empowering them.

Petra Landers, the patron of Ghana’s first social soccer school, has been organizing soccer workshops across the continent, focusing on creating opportunities for young girls through sports. As a former German soccer star, Petra led her team to victories in the European Championship, German Championship, and German Cup, and also holds a Guinness World Record for playing the highest women’s match on Mount Kilimanjaro.

In addition to sports, the young girls were introduced to basic financial literacy, led by DSIK, equipping them with essential skills for the future. They learned fundamental concepts such as savings, setting goals, and differentiating between needs and wants. These ideas were reinforced through interactive games and quizzes, keeping the girls engaged throughout the session. At the end of the session, each participant was rewarded with goodies generously donated by various Sparkassen from Germany.

“Football is not only a sport. It is dedication, teamwork, and respect. Playing football is not just about winning but about being part of a team, helping others, having dreams, and growing together. This is the real face of football!” — Petra Landers
