Organisation

German Sparkassenstiftung Western Africa operates within the framework of the German Sparkassenstiftung Head Office in Bonn, Germany.

We are an international Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) partnering with local institutions to achieve our core topics in Capacity Development, Financial Literacy, MSME Finance, Institution Building, Rural and Green Finance in West Africa.
In the Region, German Sparkassenstiftung operates in Ghana, The Gambia and Sierra Leone. With the regional office located in Accra, Ghana. Currently German Sparkassenstiftung has over 15 employees with 70% comprising of local staff and 30% international staff.

Based on the expertise of German Sparkassen Finance Group, German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK) works to strengthen the local Credit Unions and Microfinance Institutions whilst working to enhance financial independence and to reduce poverty of the economically disadvantaged.

Working to strengthen and equip the institutions in this sector is a key priority to Us. This is because, the financial industry in the selected countries faces challenges which makes access to finance difficult especially for those at the bottom of the pyramid. German Sparkassenstiftung, thus, aims to develop the capacity of Credit Unions and Microfinance Institutions in all four countries with the aim of enabling them to provide their members with specific group-oriented and customized services. In this way, the unbanked and disadvantaged groups can gain access to financial services and be able to participate in economic life.
